Electric Fencing for Rotational Grazing – Hands-On Workshop (Beginner & Advanced)

Topsy Farms is hosting a full-day Knowledge Share Event (KSE) focused on practical electric fencing for rotational grazing. This workshop is designed for farmers and landowners who want to learn how to build a reliable electric fence system from start to finish.

Participants will see demonstrations of two different corner brace systems (Jake vs Judgy James), learn how to plan and lay out a multi-strand grazing fence, install posts and wire, run conduit under gateways, and connect a solar energizer. The afternoon field session will walk through testing and troubleshooting common fencing issues so participants leave with practical skills they can apply on their own farms.

The day will also include a two-hour indoor seminar during lunch featuring Rachel from Practical Homestead Economics, who will share lessons from six years of experimentation with wild canine behavior and livestock protection. For experienced fence builders,

This event is free to attend and supports farmers implementing rotational grazing systems under the Ontario On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) programming.

• Coffee and donuts provided by Gallagher Animal Management
• Participants should bring their own lunch and dress for bad weather
• Participants should bring their own protective equipment (gloves, eye and foot protection). For the sake of bio-security, please only bring footwear that has not been on other sheep/ goat farms.
