Natural roving is also known as “washed and carded wool” or “webbing”. It is available by the pound or ounce.
Our sheep are a mix of Border Cheviot, Suffolk, and Rideau-Arcott. Our flock is pasture-raised, so the wool tends to be longer in staple. An experienced weaver/spinner remarked, “I would say your wool is also similar to Corriedale which is a popular medium wool for hand spinners. It has a micron count of 25-31.”
The properties of wool make it useful in a variety of ways. Wool is very resilient and retains its loft. It is warm even when wet, and wicks moisture away from the body. An effective insulator, it maintains warmth because of the air that it traps within its fibres. It is resistant to mold, mildew and dust mites. It can readily be washed (following our instructions) and can also be purposely shrunk, to felt. It is naturally flame resistant.
Our customers have used it in creative and interesting projects: – dry or wet felting and sculpting; filling toys or pillows, meditation pads, animal bedding; protecting spots that rub between toes; sewing knee pads into work pants; and cushioning the toes of ballet slippers. Hand spinners who don’t want the hard work of washing raw wool use it to make yarn.

Please contact us by phone or email within 7 days of delivery, and send items back within 14 days. Custom items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, cannot be exchanged. Buyers are responsible for return postage costs. If an item is not returned in its original condition, buyer is responsible for loss in value.

K I've been using a few colours of this roving and some undyed to learn to spin on a drop spindle for the last couple years. It's been going well, and I'm very happy with it! The dyed colours are incredibly fun to work with, either on their own for a solid colour or blended together for a variety in the yarn. This roving is lovely and soft and squishy, and apparently carded roving is great for beginners over the combed top available elsewhere, so I'm glad I chose Topsy to work with first!

Julie Thank you for the prompt response with my order. I made the dryer balls and they turned out great. Just enough supplies to make 4. So easy to do and much better than dryer sheets. I love the pics you send along of the animals, such a personal experience and I've never even been to the farm. I definitely will come to pick up my order next time.

Heather Your wool roving is my favourite for needle-felting. Perfect texture, and the colours are beautiful. Customer service is amazing too! I once called to find out which colours were available for purchase, and the woman I spoke to proceeded to describe every colour to me - which is no easy task over the phone! She was so patient. She did not rush me, and when I received the order I was amazed at how accurate her descriptions were.
